Hi! My name is Shelby. I am a Floridian living in a North Carolina world. I am married to my best friend and love of my life, Joel. Joel is a State Trooper for the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Once you are Law Enforcement you are family. I have met so many awesome Trooper, Police, and Sherrif wives all over the country via social media! It feels like we have known each other all our lives. Needless to say, we bleed blue!
I am a Financial Grant Specialist for a branch of the Boys and Girls Club of America here in North Carolina. In the mornings I work in my office doing finances and in the afternoon I get to spend 2 hours with the 250 children that are in our afterschool program. The Boys and Girls Club serves children living in low-income families all across the world. We give them academic help and extracurricular activities so that they can have every chance to succeed in life. You can read more about the Boys and Girls club here.
When Joel left for 7 months to go to the Training Academy for the H.P., he bought me my dream dog to keep me company. This is Aspen, our German Shepherd, who is over a year old! She has been my comfort through all the rough patches we have experienced in our Highway Patrol journey.
In February of this year, we moved for the 3rd time in a year. Joel was gone a lot working 2nd and 3rd shifts and I work full time so we didn't see each other much. We contemplated getting a second dog, but couldn't decide if we wanted another shepherd or a golden retriever. In April, I went to the pet store to pick up dog food for Aspen, and low and behold, they were having pet adoptions. This is where I got Trooper. Trooper was a Rottie/lab/hound mix from the animal shelter. When I saw him I couldn't refuse. So I bought dog food, and more dog food, and a puppy. He looks like an old man with his white chin:)
I was saved by God's grace when I was 19 years old, just 6 months before I met Joel. Joel has been saved since he was 9. Together we are traveling the road the Lord has put us on and doing our best to glorify Him!
